Why The Digital Death Clinic was Created

Our Mission at The Digital Death Clinic

Empowering Advisors, Corporations, and Fiduciaries for a Seamless Digital Legacy

The Digital Death Clinic is dedicated to providing comprehensive education and training on the preparation of digital property for a client’s death and succession. By guiding professional advisors, their clients, and administrating fiduciaries through the complexities of digital asset succession, we strive to alleviate the complexities and emotional challenges that arise when locating and transitioning digital property. Together, we work towards a future where every individual’s legacy is preserved, ensuring a smooth asset transfer while delivering added services to advisors.

The Digital Death Clinic was founded out of necessity and personal experience. In 2013, our CEO, Lee Poskanzer, lost a close friend. Months later, he received a LinkedIn notification to congratulate his friend on a milestone—a stark reminder that digital lives continue even after physical lives end. Lee realized the emotional toll this could take on families, especially if they unexpectedly receive such reminders.

Determined to find a solution, Lee investigated what happens to digital accounts after death. He discovered that crucial assets like pictures, videos, emails, and documents often fall through the cracks ofntraditional estate planning. These digital assets can become lost or locked behind privacy policies, leaving families needing access. Lee saw the urgent need for proper digital estate management and created a service that fills this gap. Thus, The Digital Death Clinic was born.
